Health professionals here at The Foot Institute – Airdrie provide services for the surgical and medical treatment of the foot and ankle. Foot Institute Podiatrists invest an average of a decade in higher education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to secure a Bachelors Degree, and the next four years in Medical School to get a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to traditional medical school and in point of fact various podiatry programmes are located within these institutions. After securing a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for an additional 1 - 3 years.
At the finalization of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have obtained considerable healthcare training with a main focus on problems pertaining to the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are trained to care for conditions varying from general disorders for instance ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are more sophisticated such as clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have comprehensive surgical training which give them the experience needed to execute surgery on those problems that are best managed through surgical treatment.
Our Doctors also have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet undergo as we walk, run or perform other activities. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait deviations empowers a Podiatric physician to design footwear and orthotics that can provide pain relief and protect against countless problems which the feet regularly experience.
