Physicians here at The Foot Institute – Airdrie focus on the surgical and medical treatment of the foot and ankle. Our doctors invest an average of ten years in education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to attain a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles general medical school and in fact a number of podiatry training programs are contained within these institutions. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for an additional one to three years.
At the conclusion of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatric doctors have obtained significant medical training with a focus on problems pertaining to the feet and ankles. Foot Institute Doctors are qualified to handle complications ranging from familiar ailments for example, ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are far more perplexing for example, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have substantial surgical training which provide them the experience required to execute surgery on those complications that are best treated through surgical intervention.
Our Doctors also have a comprehensive practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs experience as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Realizing biomechanics and gait peculiarities enables a Podiatric doctor to design shoes and orthotics which can give pain relief and reduce the chances of many troubles which the feet typically encounter.
