Dr.’s at The Foot Institute – Airdrie specialize in the surgical and medical treatment of the foot and ankle. Our doctors devote an average of 10 years in learning, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to receive a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to attain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to conventional medical school and in fact several podiatry training programs are located inside these schools. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute perform a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for yet another 1 - 3 years.
At the finalization of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatric doctors have obtained wide-ranging healthcare instruction with a focus on conditions concerning the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are trained to handle difficulties ranging from basic disorders for instance ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are even more challenging including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have extensive surgical training which provide them the practical experience necessary to carry out surgery on those problems that are ideally remedied through surgical intervention.
Our Doctors also have a thorough practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet endure as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Realizing biomechanics and gait deviations enables a Podiatric doctor to develop footwear and orthotics that can deliver pain relief and prevent many complications which the feet generally encounter.
