Podiatrists at The Foot Institute – Airdrie provide services for the surgical and medical therapy of the foot and ankle. They invest an average of 10 years in education, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to get a Bachelors Degree, and the following 4 years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to usual medical school and in fact quite a number podiatry programmes are contained within these schools. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for yet another 1 to 3 years.

Upon the fulfillment of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have gained encompassing medical training with a stress on conditions regarding the ankles and feet. Foot Institute Doctors are taught to treat problems ranging from commonplace disorders like ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are even more complex including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have substantial surgical education which give them the skill needed to conduct surgical treatment on those problems that are best remedied through surgical intervention.

Doctors at the Foot Institute additionally have a thorough practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs undergo as we walk, run or perform other activities. Understanding biomechanics and gait deviations enables a Podiatrist to design shoes and orthotics which can provide pain relief and protect against many issues which the feet normally experience.
