Dr.’s at The Foot Institute – Airdrie concentrate on the surgical and medical therapy of the foot and ankle. Foot Institute Podiatrists spend approximately 10 years in higher education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to receive a Bachelors Degree, and the following four years in Medical School to receive a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to conventional medical school and as a matter of fact various podiatry training programs are located within these academic institutions. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or residency for an additional one to three years.
At the finalization of the internship or residency, our Doctors have obtained wide-ranging health care training with an attention to on problems involving the feet and ankles. Our Doctors are instructed to treat issues extending from regular afflictions for instance ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are a lot more complicated for instance, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have thorough surgical training which give them the prior experience required to perform surgery on those conditions that are best remedied through surgical intervention.
Doctors at the Foot Institute also have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs undergo as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Understanding biomechanics and gait irregularities facilitates a Podiatrist to design shoes and orthotics that can bestow pain relief and prevent many problems which the feet usually experience.
