Dr.’s here at The Foot Institute – Airdrie specialize in the surgical and medical treatment of the ankle and foot. Our podiatrists spend around a decade in learning, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to get a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to attain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to conventional medical school and numerous podiatry programs are located within these schools. After receiving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute finish a hospital "internship" or residency for yet another 1 to 3 years.
At the fulfillment of the internship or residency, our Foot doctors have received comprehensive healthcare education with an importance on problems regarding the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are instructed to treat problems stretching from familiar disorders such as fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are much more perplexing for instance, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have comprehensive surgical training which give them the experience essential to conduct surgery on those conditions that are best handled through surgical intervention.
Foot Institute Doctors also have a thorough expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs endure as we walk, run or perform other activities. Understanding biomechanics and gait irregularities permits a Podiatric physician to create shoes and orthotics which can give pain relief and defend against a large number of problems which the feet commonly encounter.
