Airdrie Podiatrist & Foot Clinic

Physicians here at The Foot Institute – Airdrie specialise in the surgical and medical therapy of the ankle and foot. Foot Institute Podiatrists invest an average of a decade in education, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd 4 years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to conventional medical school and actually many podiatry programmes are located within these schools. Upon securing a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute perform a hospital "internship" or residency for another 1 to 3 years.

Upon the completion of the internship or post degree residency, our Doctors have received extensive medical instruction with an emphasis on problems pertaining to the ankles and feet. They are taught to deal with problems ranging from common disorders for example, fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are a lot more obscure including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have extensive surgical instruction which provide them the practical experience necessary to conduct surgery on those conditions that are best handled through surgical intervention.

Doctors at the Foot Institute additionally have a thorough practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs go through as we walk, run or perform other activities. Learning about biomechanics and gait irregularities makes it easy for a Podiatric doctor to design shoes and orthotics which can give pain relief and defend against countless troubles which the feet commonly encounter.
