Doctors at The Foot Institute – Airdrie provide services for the medical and surgical treatment of the ankle and foot. Our doctors put in about 10 years in higher education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd four years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles regular medical school and in fact numerous podiatry programs are contained within these academic institutions. After receiving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute carry out a hospital "internship" or residency for yet another one to three years.
Upon the completion of the internship or post degree residency, our Doctors have received extensive medical education with a concentration on conditions regarding the feet and ankles. Foot Institute Doctors are taught to handle difficulties extending from common ailments such as fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are even more complex for instance, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have significant surgical training which furnish them the practical experience necessary to perform surgery on those problems that are ideally remedied through surgical intervention.
Doctors at the Foot Institute also have an extensive practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet undergo as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Knowing biomechanics and gait irregularities enables a Podiatric physician to create shoes and orthotics which can offer pain relief and reduce the chances of numerous issues which the feet usually encounter.
