Health professionals at The Foot Institute – Airdrie concentrate on the surgical and medical therapy of the foot and ankle. Our podiatrists spend about 10 years in education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to receive a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to usual medical school and in fact numerous podiatry training programs lie within these academic institutions. Upon obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another one to three years.
At the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have obtained thorough health care training with an importance on complications involving the feet and ankles. Our Doctors are qualified to deal with concerns extending from regular ailments like ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are more obscure including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have significant surgical education which provide them the skill needed to carry out surgical treatment on those concerns that are best remedied through surgical intervention.
Foot Institute Doctors also have a thorough practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs experience as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Realizing biomechanics and gait deviations facilitates a Podiatric doctor to design shoes and orthotics that can bestow pain relief and defend against numerous troubles which the feet frequently encounter.
