Podiatrists here at The Foot Institute – Airdrie provide services for the medical and surgical therapy of the foot and ankle. Our doctors devote approximately ten years in higher education, the first four years in undergrad studies to attain a Bachelors Degree, and the next 4 years in Medical School to have a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles regular medical school and in fact several podiatry programmes lie within these academic institutions. Upon achieving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for yet another one to three years.
At the completion of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatric physicians have obtained considerable medical instruction with a main focus on difficulties concerning the ankles and feet. They are studied to manage conditions ranging from common conditions for instance, fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are even more obscure like clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have considerable surgical instruction which supply them the skill crucial to carry out surgery on those conditions that are best handled through surgical intervention.
Foot Institute Doctors also have a thorough expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs undergo as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Understanding biomechanics and gait abnormalities allows a Foot doctor to design footwear and orthotics which can give pain relief and protect against many complications which the feet generally encounter.
