Airdrie Podiatrist & Foot Clinic

Doctors at The Foot Institute – Airdrie specialize in the medical and surgical treatment of the foot and ankle. Our podiatrists invest an average of 10 years in learning, the first four years in undergrad studies to receive a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to general medical school and various podiatry programmes are located within these academic institutions. After attaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or residency for another one to three years.

Upon the conclusion of the internship or post degree residency, our Doctors have acquired encompassing medical training with a focus on problems pertaining to the ankles and feet. They are educated to handle problems varying from normal ailments for instance, fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are far more complicated such as clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have substantial surgical training which provide them the experience needed to perform surgery on those conditions that are ideally remedied through surgical intervention.

Doctors at the Foot Institute furthermore have a thorough practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet submit to as we walk, run or perform other activities. Learning about biomechanics and gait deviations makes it possible for a Podiatric doctor to create shoes and orthotics which can provide pain relief and minimize the risk of numerous complications which the feet routinely encounter.
