Airdrie Podiatrist & Foot Clinic

Doctors at The Foot Institute – Airdrie specialise in the medical and surgical treatment of the ankle and foot. Foot Institute Podiatrists spend an average of 10 years in higher education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to attain a Bachelors Degree, and the next 4 years in Medical School to receive a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to general medical school and a number of podiatry training programs are located within these schools. After procuring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for an additional one to three years.

At the completion of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatrists have obtained wide-ranging health care training with a concentration on problems regarding the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are qualified to manage complications varying from typical problems such as ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are far more intricate for instance, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have substantial surgical instruction which furnish them the experience necessary to perform surgical treatment on those conditions that are best treated through surgical intervention.

Doctors at the Foot Institute furthermore have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs experience as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Understanding biomechanics and gait deviations empowers a Podiatric doctor to design shoes and orthotics which can give pain relief and reduce the chances of many conditions which the feet normally encounter.
