Podiatrists here at The Foot Institute – Airdrie focus on the surgical and medical treatment of the ankle and foot. Foot Institute Doctors put in about ten years in education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to receive a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to get a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to conventional medical school and in point of fact various podiatry programmes are located within these institutions. Upon attaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute perform a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another one to three years.

Upon the finalization of the internship or post degree residency, our Foot doctors have received extensive medical training with an attention to on issues pertaining to the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are trained to manage complications varying from regular problems for example, ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are much more complex including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have extensive surgical education which supply them the experience essential to execute surgery on those problems that are best managed through surgical treatment.

Our Doctors also have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet experience as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Knowing biomechanics and gait problems permits a Podiatrist to design shoes and orthotics which can bestow pain relief and minimize the risk of many problems which the feet normally encounter.
