Physicians at The Foot Institute – Airdrie provide services for the medical and surgical treatment of the ankle and foot. They spend around ten years in higher education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd four years in Medical School to get a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to traditional medical school and as a matter of fact several podiatry programs are contained inside these institutions. After attaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute finish a hospital "internship" or residency for another 1 - 3 years.
Upon the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatric physicians have received comprehensive medical instruction with a main focus on problems regarding the ankles and feet. Foot Institute Doctors are taught to deal with problems ranging from basic ailments for example, ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are even more sophisticated including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have comprehensive surgical education which give them the prior experience necessary to execute surgical treatment on those concerns that are ideally managed through surgical intervention.
Our Doctors furthermore have a thorough practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs undergo as we walk, run or perform other activities. Realizing biomechanics and gait peculiarities enables a Podiatrist to design footwear and orthotics which can provide pain relief and minimize the risk of many conditions which the feet commonly experience.
