Doctors at The Foot Institute – Airdrie provide services for the surgical and medical therapy of the ankle and foot. Our podiatrists spend an average of a decade in higher education, the first four years in undergrad studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd four years in Medical School to have a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles general medical school and in fact several podiatry programs are located within these institutions. After getting a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute carry out a hospital "internship" or residency for another one to three years.
At the finalization of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatric physicians have obtained extensive medical instruction with a focus on problems pertaining to the feet and ankles. Our Doctors are trained to deal with complications varying from commonplace problems such as fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are more complicated like clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have comprehensive surgical training which give them the skill vital to execute surgery on those complications that are best managed through surgical treatment.
Foot Institute Doctors furthermore have a thorough expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs withstand as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Understanding biomechanics and gait peculiarities allows a Podiatric doctor to design footwear and orthotics which can deliver pain relief and protect against many problems which the feet frequently encounter.
