Podiatrists here at The Foot Institute – Airdrie provide services for the surgical and medical treatment of the ankle and foot. Our doctors spend around a decade in education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to achieve a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to get a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to standard medical school and in point of fact several podiatry training programs are located within these schools. After attaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute perform a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another 1 to 3 years.
Upon the completion of the internship or residency, our Doctors have received wide-ranging medical instruction with a stress on issues involving the feet and ankles. They are educated to handle problems ranging from usual disorders for instance, ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are a lot more sophisticated for example clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have substantial surgical training which provide them the practical experience crucial to execute surgery on those problems that are best managed through surgical intervention.
Doctors at the Foot Institute also have a thorough practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet withstand as we walk, run or perform other activities. Learning about biomechanics and gait abnormalities enables a Foot doctor to create shoes and orthotics which can offer pain relief and help prevent many problems which the feet typically encounter.
