Doctors at The Foot Institute – Airdrie provide services for the medical and surgical treatment of the foot and ankle. Foot Institute Podiatrists devote approximately ten years in learning, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to get a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles typical medical school and several podiatry programmes are located within these institutions. After procuring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute perform a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another 1 - 3 years.
Upon the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatric doctors have obtained encompassing healthcare instruction with an emphasis on problems pertaining to the feet and ankles. They are qualified to deal with concerns stretching from familiar afflictions such as fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are much more puzzling such as clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have substantial surgical training which give them the experience required to perform surgical treatment on those conditions that are ideally handled through surgical treatment.
Our Doctors also have a thorough practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet withstand as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Learning about biomechanics and gait irregularities allows a Podiatric physician to design footwear and orthotics which can deliver pain relief and prevent many complications which the feet typically experience.
