Health professionals at The Foot Institute – Airdrie specialise in the surgical and medical therapy of the foot and ankle. Our doctors invest approximately a decade in learning, the first four years in undergraduate studies to acquire a Bachelors Degree, and the following four years in Medical School to secure a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to typical medical school and in fact several podiatry programmes are located inside these institutions. After achieving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or residency for yet another one to three years.
Upon the finalization of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatrists have received wide-ranging medical training with an emphasis on problems involving the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are studied to deal with concerns ranging from familiar ailments for instance fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are a lot more obscure for example clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have substantial surgical training which give them the skill needed to perform surgical treatment on those troubles that are best managed through surgical intervention.
Foot Institute Doctors also have a thorough expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs experience as we walk, run or perform other activities. Recognizing biomechanics and gait irregularities enables a Podiatric doctor to design shoes and orthotics which can offer pain relief and defend against many troubles which the feet usually encounter.
