Doctors at The Foot Institute – Airdrie concentrate on the medical and surgical therapy of the foot and ankle. Our podiatrists spend an average of a decade in higher education, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to secure a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to attain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles traditional medical school and several podiatry training programs are located inside these schools. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute carry out a hospital "internship" or residency for another 1 to 3 years.
At the fulfillment of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have acquired considerable medical education with an emphasis on concerns regarding the feet and ankles. Our Doctors are skilled to treat difficulties stretching from commonplace conditions for instance, fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are more intricate for instance, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have substantial surgical training which give them the practical experience required to conduct surgical treatment on those conditions that are best managed through surgical intervention.
Our Doctors also have a thorough expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs submit to as we walk, run or perform other activities. Recognizing biomechanics and gait deviations empowers a Podiatric physician to design footwear and orthotics which can give pain relief and reduce the chances of a large number of issues which the feet typically experience.
