Doctors at The Foot Institute – Airdrie focus on the surgical and medical treatment of the foot and ankle. They invest an average of a decade in higher education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to secure a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to secure a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to conventional medical school and in point of fact several podiatry programmes are located inside these institutions. Upon achieving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for another one to three years.
At the completion of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatric doctors have obtained encompassing medical instruction with a focus on conditions involving the feet and ankles. They are trained to handle problems varying from usual problems for example, ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are a lot more challenging for instance, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have comprehensive surgical instruction which give them the skill required to perform surgery on those troubles that are ideally treated through surgical intervention.
Foot Institute Doctors furthermore have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs undergo as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait irregularities makes it easy for a Podiatric physician to design shoes and orthotics which can offer pain relief and defend against many problems which the feet routinely experience.
