Doctors at The Foot Institute – Airdrie concentrate on the surgical and medical treatment of the ankle and foot. Our podiatrists devote an average of 10 years in learning, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to receive a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd 4 years in Medical School to have a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to standard medical school and as a matter of fact several podiatry programmes are contained within these schools. After achieving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute carry out a hospital "internship" or residency for an additional one to three years.
At the completion of the internship or residency, our Foot doctors have received extensive health care education with a stress on difficulties regarding the feet and ankles. Our Doctors are trained to care for problems ranging from typical problems for example, ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are more sophisticated like clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have considerable surgical education which give them the experience necessary to execute surgery on those complications that are best treated through surgical intervention.
Doctors at the Foot Institute also have a thorough expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs undergo as we walk, run or perform other activities. Learning about biomechanics and gait irregularities makes it possible for a Podiatrist to develop footwear and orthotics which can give pain relief and help prevent numerous troubles which the feet regularly encounter.
