Red Deer Podiatrist & Foot Clinic

Doctors here at The Foot Institute – Red Deer specialize in the surgical and medical treatment of the ankle and foot. Foot Institute Doctors spend about a decade in higher education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the following 4 years in Medical School to receive a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to usual medical school and in point of fact several podiatry programmes are located within these institutions. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute carry out a hospital "internship" or residency for an additional 1 to 3 years.

At the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have received substantial health care education with a concentration on problems regarding the ankles and feet. Foot Institute Doctors are taught to care for concerns varying from regular ailments for example, fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are much more sophisticated for example clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have thorough surgical instruction which provide them the prior experience essential to perform surgery on those concerns that are best managed through surgical intervention.

Doctors at the Foot Institute also have a thorough expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs undergo as we walk, run or carry out other tasks. Learning about biomechanics and gait abnormalities permits a Podiatric physician to develop footwear and orthotics that can give pain relief and prevent a large number of conditions which the feet usually encounter.
