Specialists here at The Foot Institute – Red Deer provide services for the surgical and medical treatment of the foot and ankle. Our doctors devote about 10 years in learning, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to acquire a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to acquire a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to regular medical school and as a matter of fact quite a number podiatry training programs are located within these institutions. After securing a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for an additional one to three years.
At the conclusion of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have received extensive medical education with an emphasis on conditions involving the feet and ankles. They are trained to manage concerns ranging from typical problems such as ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are much more obscure such as clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have considerable surgical instruction which supply them the experience crucial to conduct surgery on those problems that are ideally treated through surgical intervention.
Our Doctors also have a thorough expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs receive as we walk, run or perform other activities. Knowing biomechanics and gait irregularities permits a Foot doctor to create footwear and orthotics which can bestow pain relief and reduce the chances of a large number of conditions which the feet normally experience.
