Dr.’s here at The Foot Institute – Red Deer provide services for the medical and surgical treatment of the ankle and foot. Foot Institute Podiatrists spend approximately a decade in education, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the next four years in Medical School to acquire a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles conventional medical school and many podiatry training programs are located within these schools. Upon attaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute perform a hospital "internship" or residency for yet another 1 - 3 years.
Upon the fulfillment of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatrists have acquired extensive medical education with an emphasis on problems involving the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are qualified to handle conditions stretching from simple disorders such as fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are even more obscure such as clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have extensive surgical training which provide them the prior experience necessary to perform surgical treatment on those issues that are best treated through surgical intervention.
Doctors at the Foot Institute additionally have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet submit to as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Realizing biomechanics and gait peculiarities empowers a Podiatric doctor to develop shoes and orthotics which can offer pain relief and avoid many problems which the feet commonly experience.
