Medical professionals here at The Foot Institute – Red Deer specialise in the surgical and medical therapy of the ankle and foot. They spend approximately a decade in education, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to receive a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd four years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to regular medical school and as a matter of fact several podiatry training programs are located inside these institutions. After acquiring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for yet another one to three years.
At the fulfillment of the internship or residency, our Foot doctors have received encompassing medical education with a main focus on difficulties involving the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are trained to deal with complications ranging from typical problems like fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are much more complex including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have significant surgical instruction which provide them the prior experience necessary to execute surgery on those complications that are ideally treated through surgical intervention.
Our Doctors furthermore have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs submit to as we walk, run or perform other activities. Learning about biomechanics and gait abnormalities enables a Foot doctor to design footwear and orthotics that can offer pain relief and protect against many troubles which the feet frequently encounter.
