Red Deer Podiatrist & Foot Clinic

Physicians at The Foot Institute – Red Deer specialize in the surgical and medical treatment of the foot and ankle. Foot Institute Podiatrists spend around 10 years in education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to acquire a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to traditional medical school and in reality several podiatry programs are contained within these institutions. After achieving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute finish a hospital "internship" or residency for an additional 1 - 3 years.

At the finalization of the internship or residency, our Podiatric physicians have received thorough medical education with a focus on problems concerning the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are taught to care for problems ranging from simple conditions like fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are far more puzzling for instance, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have thorough surgical instruction which supply them the experience necessary to execute surgery on those problems that are best remedied through surgical intervention.

Doctors at the Foot Institute also have a thorough expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs undergo as we walk, run or perform other activities. Understanding biomechanics and gait problems allows a Podiatric doctor to design shoes and orthotics which can give pain relief and avoid many complications which the feet normally encounter.
