Doctors here at The Foot Institute – Red Deer concentrate on the surgical and medical treatment of the foot and ankle. Foot Institute Podiatrists put in about 10 years in learning, the first four years in undergraduate studies to get a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd 4 years in Medical School to attain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to general medical school and actually quite a number podiatry programs are located inside these institutions. After receiving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for another 1 to 3 years.

Upon the finalization of the internship or post degree residency, our Doctors have acquired encompassing medical training with an emphasis on conditions regarding the ankles and feet. They are studied to manage problems ranging from general conditions for instance, ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are much more complex like clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have thorough surgical instruction which provide them the experience needed to carry out surgical treatment on those problems that are ideally remedied through surgical intervention.

Doctors at the Foot Institute additionally have a thorough practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs go through as we walk, run or carry out other tasks. Understanding biomechanics and gait problems makes it possible for a Podiatrist to develop shoes and orthotics which can offer pain relief and prevent numerous conditions which the feet regularly experience.
