Medical doctors at The Foot Institute – Red Deer specialise in the surgical and medical treatment of the ankle and foot. Foot Institute Doctors invest an average of 10 years in learning, the first four years in undergraduate studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to have a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles typical medical school and in point of fact several podiatry programs are contained within these institutions. Upon obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for an additional 1 to 3 years.

At the completion of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatric physicians have gained extensive health care training with a concentration on problems concerning the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are trained to treat problems ranging from standard afflictions for example, ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are a lot more puzzling like clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have substantial surgical training which give them the experience necessary to perform surgery on those troubles that are best treated through surgical intervention.

Our Doctors likewise have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs experience as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Understanding biomechanics and gait abnormalities permits a Foot doctor to create footwear and orthotics which can provide pain relief and avoid a large number of troubles which the feet generally experience.
