Dr.’s here at The Foot Institute – Airdrie concentrate on the surgical and medical treatment of the foot and ankle. Our podiatrists devote an average of a decade in learning, the first four years in undergraduate studies to secure a Bachelors Degree, and the following four years in Medical School to secure a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to conventional medical school and in fact several podiatry programs are located within these academic institutions. After receiving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or residency for yet another 1 to 3 years.
At the fulfillment of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatric doctors have gained comprehensive healthcare training with a focus on complications involving the feet and ankles. They are instructed to manage conditions ranging from common ailments for instance ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are far more obscure including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have thorough surgical education which give them the practical experience crucial to carry out surgical treatment on those problems that are ideally treated through surgical intervention.
Our Doctors also have a thorough practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs submit to as we walk, run or carry out other tasks. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait deviations enables a Foot doctor to design footwear and orthotics which can deliver pain relief and defend against numerous conditions which the feet routinely experience.
