Medical doctors at The Foot Institute – Calgary focus on the surgical and medical therapy of the ankle and foot. Our doctors devote approximately 10 years in higher education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the next 4 years in Medical School to get a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to traditional medical school and in point of fact numerous podiatry programmes lie inside these schools. After attaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute carry out a hospital "internship" or residency for another 1 to 3 years.
Upon the finalization of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have obtained comprehensive healthcare education with a focus on concerns concerning the feet and ankles. Our Doctors are trained to treat problems extending from common problems for instance ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are much more challenging such as clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have comprehensive surgical instruction which supply them the experience needed to execute surgical treatment on those issues that are best treated through surgical intervention.
Doctors at the Foot Institute likewise have a thorough expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet go through as we walk, run or perform other activities. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait deviations allows a Podiatric physician to design shoes and orthotics that can deliver pain relief and defend against many complications which the feet usually encounter.
