Medical professionals here at The Foot Institute – Camrose provide services for the medical and surgical treatment of the foot and ankle. They spend about ten years in higher education, the first four years in undergrad studies to receive a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to secure a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to typical medical school and in fact a number of podiatry programs are located inside these academic institutions. Upon obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for an additional 1 - 3 years.
At the finalization of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatrists have obtained substantial healthcare education with a main focus on complications involving the feet and ankles. Our Doctors are instructed to handle issues ranging from normal problems for instance, fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are much more obscure for example, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have thorough surgical training which give them the prior experience crucial to carry out surgical treatment on those concerns that are best treated through surgical intervention.
Our Doctors also have an extensive practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs undergo as we walk, run or perform other activities. Recognizing biomechanics and gait deviations enables a Podiatric physician to design shoes and orthotics which can deliver pain relief and prevent countless problems which the feet routinely encounter.
