Dr.’s here at The Foot Institute – Red Deer concentrate on the medical and surgical treatment of the foot and ankle. They devote an average of a decade in education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to receive a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to usual medical school and actually many podiatry training programs are located within these institutions. After achieving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for an additional 1 to 3 years.

At the fulfillment of the internship or post degree residency, our Foot doctors have gained comprehensive health care instruction with a main focus on complications involving the ankles and feet. Foot Institute Doctors are trained to handle conditions extending from common problems for instance fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are much more puzzling including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have thorough surgical training which furnish them the experience required to perform surgical treatment on those conditions that are ideally treated through surgical treatment.

Our Doctors additionally have a thorough practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs submit to as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Learning about biomechanics and gait problems makes it possible for a Podiatric physician to develop footwear and orthotics which can deliver pain relief and prevent countless issues which the feet normally encounter.
