Physicians at The Foot Institute – Red Deer provide services for the medical and surgical treatment of the ankle and foot. Foot Institute Doctors devote approximately 10 years in learning, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to get a Bachelors Degree, and the following 4 years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to usual medical school and in fact several podiatry training programs are contained inside these schools. Upon acquiring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another one to three years.

Upon the completion of the internship or residency, our Doctors have received comprehensive health care training with an emphasis on problems involving the feet and ankles. Foot Institute Doctors are trained to treat problems ranging from common ailments like fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are more perplexing for example, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have significant surgical instruction which provide them the practical experience needed to carry out surgical treatment on those troubles that are ideally treated through surgical treatment.

Doctors at the Foot Institute additionally have an extensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs submit to as we walk, run or perform other activities. Recognizing biomechanics and gait abnormalities makes it easy for a Podiatrist to design footwear and orthotics which can provide pain relief and prevent many issues which the feet generally encounter.
