Specialists here at The Foot Institute – Red Deer specialize in the surgical and medical treatment of the ankle and foot. They invest an average of 10 years in education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to achieve a Bachelors Degree, and the following four years in Medical School to secure a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to usual medical school and several podiatry programmes are located inside these academic institutions. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for another 1 - 3 years.

Upon the completion of the internship or residency, our Doctors have obtained wide-ranging healthcare training with an attention to on complications concerning the feet and ankles. They are trained to treat problems ranging from commonplace problems for instance ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are more challenging for example clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have thorough surgical instruction which provide them the expertise needed to execute surgery on those issues that are best treated through surgical intervention.

Doctors at the Foot Institute furthermore have a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs receive as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Realizing biomechanics and gait irregularities makes it easy for a Podiatric physician to design shoes and orthotics which can offer pain relief and prevent countless troubles which the feet normally encounter.
