Red Deer Podiatrist & Foot Clinic

Dr.’s at The Foot Institute – Red Deer concentrate on the medical and surgical therapy of the ankle and foot. Foot Institute Doctors spend around ten years in learning, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to get a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to typical medical school and actually numerous podiatry programmes are located inside these schools. Upon obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute perform a hospital "internship" or residency for another 1 - 3 years.

At the completion of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatrists have received wide-ranging healthcare training with an emphasis on issues pertaining to the feet and ankles. Our Doctors are trained to manage difficulties stretching from common problems for instance fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are more challenging for example clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have substantial surgical instruction which provide them the prior experience necessary to carry out surgical treatment on those issues that are best handled through surgical intervention.

Doctors at the Foot Institute furthermore have an extensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs experience as we walk, run or carry out other tasks. Learning about biomechanics and gait irregularities makes it possible for a Podiatric doctor to design shoes and orthotics which can offer pain relief and prevent many complications which the feet generally encounter.
