Doctors at The Foot Institute – Red Deer concentrate on the surgical and medical therapy of the ankle and foot. Our doctors spend an average of a decade in higher education, the first four years in undergrad studies to attain a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to secure a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to conventional medical school and several podiatry programs are located inside these schools. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another 1 to 3 years.

At the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatric doctors have received encompassing medical training with an emphasis on concerns pertaining to the ankles and feet. Foot Institute Doctors are educated to deal with issues stretching from familiar ailments for instance, ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are far more obscure including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have extensive surgical instruction which give them the prior experience necessary to perform surgical treatment on those issues that are best handled through surgical treatment.

Doctors at the Foot Institute also have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet undergo as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Recognizing biomechanics and gait peculiarities facilitates a Podiatrist to develop footwear and orthotics that can deliver pain relief and help prevent numerous problems which the feet normally encounter.
