Dr.’s at The Foot Institute – Red Deer concentrate on the surgical and medical treatment of the foot and ankle. Our podiatrists put in approximately ten years in education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to receive a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to regular medical school and in fact many podiatry programs are contained within these institutions. After getting a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for an additional one to three years.
At the completion of the internship or residency, our Foot doctors have received wide-ranging medical instruction with a main focus on complications concerning the feet and ankles. Foot Institute Doctors are educated to address complications extending from regular problems for example, fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are a lot more intricate for instance, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have extensive surgical instruction which give them the experience needed to perform surgery on those complications that are ideally treated through surgical intervention.
Our Doctors furthermore have an extensive practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet receive as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait peculiarities makes it easy for a Podiatric doctor to design footwear and orthotics which can deliver pain relief and minimize the risk of many conditions which the feet usually encounter.
