Health professionals at The Foot Institute – Camrose provide services for the surgical and medical treatment of the foot and ankle. Our podiatrists put in an average of 10 years in higher education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to receive a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to have a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to usual medical school and as a matter of fact various podiatry training programs lie inside these schools. After receiving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for an additional one to three years.
At the fulfillment of the internship or residency, our Doctors have received wide-ranging medical training with a stress on problems concerning the feet and ankles. Foot Institute Doctors are instructed to treat difficulties extending from simple problems like fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are a lot more sophisticated such as clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have comprehensive surgical training which give them the skill necessary to carry out surgery on those concerns that are ideally managed through surgical intervention.
Foot Institute Doctors also have a thorough practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs withstand as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait peculiarities enables a Podiatrist to create shoes and orthotics that can deliver pain relief and minimize the risk of a large number of complications which the feet commonly encounter.
