Podiatrists here at The Foot Institute – Camrose provide services for the medical and surgical treatment of the foot and ankle. Foot Institute Podiatrists spend an average of 10 years in learning, the first four years in undergraduate studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the next 4 years in Medical School to secure a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to traditional medical school and in fact various podiatry training programs are located inside these schools. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for yet another 1 - 3 years.
Upon the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have gained thorough medical training with a focus on conditions involving the feet and ankles. Our Doctors are trained to address conditions varying from regular problems like fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are much more obscure like clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have comprehensive surgical instruction which provide them the experience vital to conduct surgery on those concerns that are best remedied through surgical treatment.
Doctors at the Foot Institute also have a comprehensive expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs endure as we walk, run or perform other activities. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait abnormalities empowers a Foot doctor to design shoes and orthotics that can deliver pain relief and help prevent a large number of issues which the feet routinely encounter.
