Physicians at The Foot Institute – Red Deer focus on the surgical and medical treatment of the foot and ankle. Foot Institute Doctors put in approximately 10 years in higher education, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to acquire a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to acquire a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to conventional medical school and as a matter of fact numerous podiatry programmes lie within these institutions. Upon receiving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or residency for another one to three years.

At the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have obtained encompassing healthcare education with a stress on problems concerning the ankles and feet. They are trained to address issues stretching from conventional conditions such as fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are much more puzzling for example clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have comprehensive surgical instruction which give them the expertise required to conduct surgical treatment on those troubles that are best managed through surgical treatment.

Our Doctors also have a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet experience as we walk, run or perform other activities. Realizing biomechanics and gait peculiarities makes it possible for a Foot doctor to design shoes and orthotics which can offer pain relief and avoid many complications which the feet commonly experience.
