Doctors at The Foot Institute – Red Deer provide services for the surgical and medical therapy of the ankle and foot. They spend about a decade in higher education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to traditional medical school and in fact many podiatry training programs are located inside these schools. After securing a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for yet another 1 - 3 years.

Upon the finalization of the internship or residency, our Doctors have obtained encompassing health care instruction with a stress on problems regarding the feet and ankles. They are taught to deal with problems stretching from basic ailments for instance ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are even more challenging like clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have significant surgical training which give them the experience necessary to perform surgery on those complications that are ideally handled through surgical treatment.

Foot Institute Doctors also have a thorough expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet experience as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Recognizing biomechanics and gait peculiarities enables a Podiatric physician to create shoes and orthotics which can offer pain relief and minimize the risk of numerous problems which the feet typically encounter.
