Podiatrists at The Foot Institute – Red Deer specialize in the surgical and medical treatment of the foot and ankle. They spend approximately a decade in learning, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to conventional medical school and as a matter of fact various podiatry training programs are contained within these schools. After securing a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for another one to three years.

At the finalization of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have received wide-ranging medical training with an importance on problems pertaining to the feet and ankles. Foot Institute Doctors are trained to treat conditions stretching from simple problems for instance ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are more obscure including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have substantial surgical instruction which supply them the practical experience needed to conduct surgery on those troubles that are best handled through surgical intervention.

Our Doctors additionally have a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs endure as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait peculiarities empowers a Podiatric doctor to create shoes and orthotics which can bestow pain relief and defend against many conditions which the feet commonly encounter.
