Doctors at The Foot Institute – Red Deer concentrate on the surgical and medical treatment of the foot and ankle. They put in about a decade in higher education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to get a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to attain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to traditional medical school and as a matter of fact several podiatry programmes lie within these schools. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute finish a hospital "internship" or residency for another 1 to 3 years.

Upon the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have gained substantial health care training with a concentration on problems regarding the feet and ankles. Our Doctors are trained to handle conditions varying from common conditions like fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are far more obscure such as clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have considerable surgical education which supply them the skill essential to perform surgical treatment on those problems that are best treated through surgical treatment.

Foot Institute Doctors additionally have an extensive practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet submit to as we walk, run or perform other activities. Realizing biomechanics and gait problems makes it possible for a Podiatrist to develop footwear and orthotics that can bestow pain relief and reduce the chances of many issues which the feet typically encounter.
