Doctors here at The Foot Institute – Red Deer specialize in the surgical and medical treatment of the ankle and foot. Foot Institute Podiatrists invest an average of 10 years in learning, the first four years in undergraduate studies to attain a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to attain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to regular medical school and as a matter of fact a number of podiatry programs are contained within these institutions. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another 1 - 3 years.

Upon the conclusion of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have gained extensive health care training with an attention to on problems pertaining to the ankles and feet. Foot Institute Doctors are qualified to deal with problems varying from commonplace conditions such as ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are much more complex for example, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have comprehensive surgical instruction which provide them the expertise necessary to execute surgical treatment on those issues that are best remedied through surgical intervention.

Our Doctors likewise have a thorough practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs go through as we walk, run or carry out other tasks. Knowing biomechanics and gait irregularities facilitates a Podiatrist to design shoes and orthotics that can give pain relief and avoid many problems which the feet typically encounter.
