Doctors at The Foot Institute – Calgary Downtown focus on the medical and surgical treatment of the foot and ankle. They put in around a decade in higher education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to have a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to regular medical school and in fact a number of podiatry programs are located within these schools. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute carry out a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another 1 to 3 years.

Upon the fulfillment of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatric doctors have gained extensive medical instruction with a focus on problems involving the ankles and feet. Foot Institute Doctors are trained to address concerns ranging from typical problems like fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are more perplexing for example clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have extensive surgical training which supply them the expertise necessary to execute surgery on those concerns that are best remedied through surgical intervention.

Foot Institute Doctors furthermore have a thorough practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs experience as we walk, run or perform other activities. Knowing biomechanics and gait peculiarities enables a Podiatrist to design footwear and orthotics which can deliver pain relief and protect against countless issues which the feet usually experience.
