Doctors at The Foot Institute – Calgary provide services for the medical and surgical treatment of the foot and ankle. Foot Institute Podiatrists put in an average of 10 years in higher education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to attain a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles typical medical school and in fact several podiatry programmes lie within these institutions. After achieving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute carry out a hospital "internship" or residency for an additional one to three years.
At the completion of the internship or residency, our Doctors have gained extensive healthcare instruction with a main focus on complications regarding the feet and ankles. Foot Institute Doctors are skilled to treat issues ranging from commonplace ailments for instance, ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are far more obscure including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have comprehensive surgical instruction which supply them the practical experience needed to conduct surgical treatment on those issues that are ideally remedied through surgical treatment.
Doctors at the Foot Institute also have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet experience as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait peculiarities makes it possible for a Podiatric physician to design footwear and orthotics which can give pain relief and defend against a large number of troubles which the feet regularly encounter.
