Specialists here at The Foot Institute – Calgary specialize in the medical and surgical treatment of the foot and ankle. Our podiatrists devote about 10 years in learning, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to acquire a Bachelors Degree, and the next four years in Medical School to receive a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to usual medical school and in fact several podiatry programs are located inside these academic institutions. Upon getting a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute carry out a hospital "internship" or residency for another one to three years.

Upon the finalization of the internship or residency, our Doctors have acquired substantial medical training with a concentration on concerns involving the ankles and feet. They are trained to manage concerns ranging from basic problems for instance ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are even more challenging including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have extensive surgical instruction which provide them the practical experience required to conduct surgery on those concerns that are best treated through surgical intervention.

Doctors at the Foot Institute additionally have an extensive expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs endure as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Realizing biomechanics and gait abnormalities facilitates a Podiatric physician to develop footwear and orthotics which can offer pain relief and help prevent many complications which the feet commonly encounter.
