Calgary Podiatrist & Foot Clinic

Specialists here at The Foot Institute – Calgary specialize in the medical and surgical treatment of the foot and ankle. Foot Institute Podiatrists devote an average of 10 years in higher education, the first four years in undergrad studies to receive a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd 4 years in Medical School to have a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to general medical school and in fact various podiatry programmes are located inside these schools. After procuring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for another 1 to 3 years.

Upon the fulfillment of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have acquired comprehensive health care training with an importance on problems regarding the feet and ankles. They are trained to manage issues varying from conventional ailments for instance, ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are a lot more sophisticated such as clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have substantial surgical training which give them the prior experience required to perform surgical treatment on those problems that are best treated through surgical intervention.

Foot Institute Doctors additionally have an extensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs receive as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Learning about biomechanics and gait deviations permits a Podiatric doctor to create footwear and orthotics that can provide pain relief and minimize the risk of many issues which the feet routinely encounter.
