Physicians at The Foot Institute – Red Deer concentrate on the surgical and medical therapy of the ankle and foot. Our podiatrists spend an average of ten years in higher education, the first four years in undergrad studies to get a Bachelors Degree, and the next 4 years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to conventional medical school and in point of fact a number of podiatry training programs are located inside these schools. Upon acquiring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute carry out a hospital "internship" or residency for yet another 1 to 3 years.

At the completion of the internship or residency, our Foot doctors have obtained extensive medical instruction with a stress on difficulties concerning the ankles and feet. They are taught to handle concerns ranging from normal ailments such as ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are far more complicated like clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have considerable surgical training which furnish them the expertise crucial to perform surgery on those issues that are best remedied through surgical intervention.

Our Doctors furthermore have an extensive practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet endure as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait abnormalities makes it possible for a Podiatrist to design shoes and orthotics which can bestow pain relief and minimize the risk of many problems which the feet regularly encounter.
