Doctors at The Foot Institute – Red Deer specialize in the medical and surgical therapy of the foot and ankle. Foot Institute Doctors invest an average of 10 years in learning, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to attain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to usual medical school and in fact a number of podiatry programmes are located within these academic institutions. After acquiring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another one to three years.

At the finalization of the internship or residency, our Doctors have obtained substantial medical education with a focus on complications pertaining to the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are trained to deal with concerns ranging from typical problems such as fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are much more sophisticated like clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have thorough surgical education which furnish them the practical experience necessary to carry out surgical treatment on those problems that are ideally managed through surgical intervention.

Our Doctors furthermore have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet withstand as we walk, run or perform other activities. Learning about biomechanics and gait deviations allows a Podiatric physician to design shoes and orthotics which can provide pain relief and help prevent countless conditions which the feet usually experience.
