Dr.’s at The Foot Institute – Airdrie concentrate on the medical and surgical therapy of the foot and ankle. Our podiatrists invest an average of 10 years in higher education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to have a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to traditional medical school and as a matter of fact several podiatry programs are located inside these academic institutions. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another one to three years.
At the conclusion of the internship or residency, our Podiatric doctors have gained significant medical instruction with an importance on complications regarding the feet and ankles. Our Doctors are trained to care for problems extending from typical ailments for instance, ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are far more perplexing including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have significant surgical training which give them the skill needed to perform surgical treatment on those troubles that are best handled through surgical intervention.
Doctors at the Foot Institute furthermore have a thorough practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet receive as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Realizing biomechanics and gait peculiarities makes it possible for a Podiatric doctor to develop shoes and orthotics which can deliver pain relief and help prevent countless conditions which the feet normally encounter.
