Podiatrists at The Foot Institute – Camrose focus on the surgical and medical therapy of the ankle and foot. They spend about 10 years in higher education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to secure a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to acquire a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to typical medical school and in fact various podiatry training programs are located within these schools. Upon achieving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for another one to three years.
Upon the finalization of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have received substantial healthcare education with a main focus on difficulties concerning the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are taught to address problems ranging from general conditions for instance, ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are far more complex for instance, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have substantial surgical instruction which give them the skill necessary to execute surgical treatment on those conditions that are best remedied through surgical treatment.
Foot Institute Doctors furthermore have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet undergo as we walk, run or carry out other tasks. Knowing biomechanics and gait deviations permits a Podiatrist to develop shoes and orthotics which can offer pain relief and reduce the chances of numerous issues which the feet normally encounter.
